Best Moments in Vintage Sports History
Way back before our vintage snapback and clothing store ever existed, before the mountains of Colorado became our new home, there was one passion that burned bright. And that was sports.
As many of you have probably noticed, a lot of our vintage shirts and snapbacks feature old team uniforms and sports specialty apparel. Something we try to keep consistent with every new restock. But the reason why we look to fill our shelves with these relics of sports history isn’t just because they look fresh. It’s because these stitchings and every piece of fiber hold memories of some incredible moments in athletics. Moments that even today, define the world around us.
You probably have several of your own, but the following are some of our favorite moments to ever happen in sports history. More than that, these are some of the reasons that inspire us to make this vintage snapback and clothing store dream alive today.
5. “The Rumble in the Jungle”
Perhaps one of the biggest talkers in the game, Muhammad Ali, in one of the biggest competitions of his career yet - The Rumble in the Jungle. Taking on undefeated heavyweight champion George Foreman, Ali was talking as if he had already won the fight, months before it took place. But when the day came to touch gloves, Muhammad Ali showed everyone why he earned the nickname “The Greatest” when he knocked out Foreman in the 8th round.
4. Babe Ruth, the Shot Caller
There are plenty of athletes today who call themselves shot callers. But the OG shot-caller, the Sultan of Swat, the Great Bambino, Babe Ruth, was the one who practically invented the shot call. It was game 3 of the 1932 World Series, and the Big Fellow stepped up to the plate, pointed to the stands in center field, and proceeded to place the ball in that exact location. We salute you, Babe.
3. 1988 Slam Dunk Contest
It was the moment that solidified and etched “Jumpman” in the history books forever. The 1988 Slam Dunk Contest, in which Michael Jordan launched himself from the free-throw line to deliver one of the most high-flying dunks in sports history. And it was in this moment that a billion-dollar clothing company was born that still radiates through the snapbacks and vintage clothes we browse today.
2. Jessie Owens Gives the Bird to Hitler
The year was 1936, and Nazi Germany was in full a-hole mode, doing the best they can to make the human race look as doomed as possible. But in the wake of all this hatred, all this inhumanity, there was a beacon of light. A lightning bolt to be more accurate. By the name of Jessie Owens, who decided he would go ahead and win not one, but four gold medals in the 100m, 200m, long jump, and 4x100m relay. And foreshadow the American victories that were soon to come.
1. Miracle on Ice
It was a cold New York day when the Soviet Union came to the United States to face off against our men’s Olympic team for the gold medal. The soviets, a four-time defending gold medal champion, had every intention of coming to our soil and showing us what’s what. But the boys had other plans. It’s memories like this one that we think of every time we look to pick up vintage Olympic snapbacks. And it’s memories like this that keep us coming back for more.
